Smart man

A NYC man calls 911 and says, “Send police! A criminal just broke into my basement and is stealing my tools!”
The dispatcher says, “No one is available right now, but an officer will be out later today to take a report.”
A few minutes later, the man calls back and says, “Never mind! I just shot and killed the criminal!”
Within minutes, half a dozen police cars and a helicopter arrive at the man’s house.
The burglar runs out of the basement and is arrested.
An angry cop approaches the homeowner and says, “You said you killed the criminal!”
The homeowner replies, “You said no one was available”
